Christmas Eve Weather Photo From The Desert
The Los Angeles area got hammered with some unusually heavy rain this past week. Here in the desert we experienced light rain on and off Tuesday and then a decent amount of rain on Wednesday. We then woke up to sunny skies again on Thursday with snow up high in our local mountains. Looks like 70º F (21.1º C) today and a little warmer at 72º on Christmas Day.
My husband Bill took this photo from our neighborhood this morning where we just purchased a bank owned home that was a great opportunity.

I’ve been telling people it is a great time to buy here in the desert and we have invested in a great real estate opportunity ourselves!

Happy New Year From The Desert!
Based on the number of holiday visitors in the desert these past two weeks it looks like 2011 will continue to be very busy, right where 2010 left off.
2010 was another record sales year for Sheri Dettman & Associates as buyers continued to take advantage of some great real estate opportunities here in the Palm Springs area.

Dining Around The Desert: Lavender Bistro, La Quinta

Over the last two years, my husband Bill and I have dined at Lavender Bistro on a regular basis. With all the positive feedback from our clients and friends, we thought we’d review it this time around, as well, since it’s one of our local favorites.
An Old-Town La Quinta Favorite
Lavender Bistro is a Mediterranean-style restaurant that opened in late ‘08 in Old Town La Quinta in the former space of Blend Restaurant. Lavender Bistro is owned by Nicolas Despras, a young man who has learned the trade by working closely with his father, Michel Despras, owner of Le St. Germain Restaurant in Indian Wells.
Bill enjoys the pork chop, which is one of Lavender’s house specialties. I lean towards the bar ‘small bites’ menu and usually rotate between the Tuna Tacos and the Roasted Beet Salad. From time to time I indulge in one of Lavender’s excellent seafood or pasta dishes.
Extensive Patio Dining Available
Lavender’s extensive patio dining area is hard to beat on warm desert evenings. Tuesday nights feature is half-price wine by the bottle. The Lavender bar menu includes a wide variety of appetizers for around $8. Dress is casual and live piano music is offered on weekends.
Although the Lavender is not easy to find for those not familiar with Old Town La Quinta, it is certainly worth a visit. It is located at 78073 Calle Barcelona, just down the street from Arnold Palmer's restaurant and, just across from the Homestead Restaurant. (760) 564-5353.

Dining Around The Desert – Firecliff, Palm Desert (Closed 2014)
After two-dozen or more visits to Firecliff over the last two years I recently realized that we have never posted a review! Firecliff is one of our go-to spots when we desire a nice relaxing dinner where the long-time servers know our names.
Firecliff features two popular outdoor raised patios overlooking El Paseo Drive, an intimate lounge area and two fairly intimate dining rooms. Music from two of our favorite pianists, Sonny Varo and Linda Peterson, drifts through the restaurant as they run through favorite standards and encourage guests’ requests.
Contemporary California Cuisine
Firecliff’s Contemporary California Cuisine menu offers all the classic favorites prepared by Chef/Owner Patricia Hook. Prime steaks, fresh seafood, rack of lamb, pasta and a variety of salads can be enjoyed in the lounge or restaurant areas.
My husband, Bill, enjoys the Oven Roasted Jidori Breast of Chicken while I usually lean towards the Red Pear Gorgonzola salad and the Roasted Poblano Chile. The Warm Apple Crisp is just one of several yummy deserts you can enjoy.
