Real Estate Deals Extending To Palm Springs Area Golf And Country Club Memberships

Tradition Golf Club, La Quinta

A number of Palm Springs area private golf and country clubs recently seemed to wake up to the fact that desert home buyers, and prospective home buyers are seeking better values for golf and country club memberships–just as in real estate.

Each private club wants to keep its membership ranks as full as possible. And it’s often a balancing act in adjusting prices to meet market conditions. The good news for prospective club members is that there are some very attractive programs at some of the best private clubs in the desert. Membership prices have likely not been this good in over a decade.

The Humana Challenge PGA Tour event comes to La Quinta January 16-22. The host course will be La Quinta’s PGA West Palmer Private golf course. Both Pro’s and amateurs will also play the PGA West Nicklaus Private golf course and the storied La Quinta Country Club. Golf course home and condo owners and their guests at the three courses will have front row luxury viewing of all the golf action.

Playing With PGA Tour Pros

This event brings back found memories for my husband Bill as he was selected by draw to play in the Hope celebrity field for four rounds with celebrity playing partners Marcus Allen and Sterling Sharp. Bill's group was then paired in the tournament playing rounds with golf major winners Corey Pavin, Mike Weir, Justin Leonard (who won the event that year) and on the final day with John Daly and some huge galleries.

"All the crowds and pressure kind of got me amped up," Bill said. "As a 14 handicap, I averaged four natural birdies each day and while playing with Daly I missed a hole in one by about two inches. With crowds four deep lining the fairways during Saturday's round, I kept thinking to myself just don't hit anyone!"

Traditional Sales Zoom, Distressed Sales Slow

Traditional Sales Zoom, Distressed Sales Slow

Hideaway Golf Club La Quinta

51% of our sales so far during 2011 have been traditional non-distressed property sales. Not to long ago our home and condo sales were equally split at 1/3 traditional, 1/3 bank owned and 1/3 short sales. Here’s the sales breakdown so far this year:

  • 51% Traditional sales (non-distressed properties)
  • 17% Bank owned homes (also known as REO’s or foreclosures)
  • 17% Short sales

Sales Increase 30% Over Last Year

Sheri Dettman & Associates is currently tracking a 30% sales increase for this year over 2010. Interest and inquires from prospective buyers continues to grow. 2011 will be our fifth year in a row of double-digit sales increases, which seems to confirm that people continue to desire their own home in the sun here in the desert. What will 2012 sales look like? I'll go out on a limb and estimate that we'll record a 20% increase next year. Stay tuned.

Palm Springs Area Voted Best Golf Desination For 2012

Palm Springs Area Voted Best Golf Desination For 2012

Palm Springs has been voted as “2012’s Top North American Golf Destination” by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), at the IAGTO Annual Golf Travel Awards Ceremony in Belek, Turkey on November 17, 2011.

The Palm Springs Area Offers More Than 100 Golf Courses

With more than 100 golf courses located throughout our destination, many designed by such notable golf architects as Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, Tom Fazio and Pete Dye, the Palm Springs area has become a year-round golf destination, as famous today for our annual tournaments as we are for our 350-days of signature sunshine.

World-Wide Recognition For Palm Springs Golf

IAGTO’s 380+ golf tour operators from 55 different countries cast their votes for the Awards. Each operator was asked to nominate what they considered to be their best performing golf destinations this year enjoyed by their golf travelling clients. There are five Golf Destination of the Year winners – one in each of five regional categories: North America, Latin America & Caribbean, Europe, Africa & Gulf States, Asia and Australia. The golf destination in each of the five regions with the most votes receives the 2012 Golf Destination of the Year accolade.

The Palm Springs area is comprised of eight distinctively charming desert resort cities in Riverside County – Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, Indian Wells, Indio, La Quinta, Palm Desert, Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage. Year-round sunshine and world-class hotel and resort amenities entertain more than 3 million visitors each year, including families, newlyweds, seniors and singles. The area is not only a mecca for golf, but tennis and relaxation with more than 600 tennis courts and 50,000 swimming pools.

La Quinta Resort & Club and PGA West in La Quinta received the Award for North American Golf Resort of the Year at last year’s event.

There's Lot's More Than Golf In Palm Springs

The recreational opportunities in the Palm Springs area are endless. Travel by Jeep, Hummer, or on foot through historic Palm Springs Indian Canyons or the San Andreas Fault. Watch a polo match or see the valley, part of the Colorado Desert, from a hot air balloon. Rejuvenate with a spa treatment or soak in natural mineral waters. Spend a day shopping at trendy boutiques on historic Palm Canyon Drive or exclusive El Paseo.
