Ground was broken this week on three new construction luxury homes today in phase-two at Stonefield Estates in Southwest Indio. This as the 10th and final home in phase-one closes escrow this week. Already reserved in phase-two are two Italian Country Estate Plan-5 Homes and one Andalusia Plan-3 luxury home. The buyers of these homes were able to work with the developer in customizing their floor plans, finishes and exterior elevations.

Dining Around The Desert: Cork & Fork Wine Bar, La Quinta

Newly Opened In La Quinta, Adjacent To Cooking With Class

The newly opened Cork & Fork started life as a weekly small plate and wine by the glass happy hour experience at Cooking With Class, which is located right next door to the new restaurant.

Chef/Owner, Andi Hubka, and mom/partner, Jane Angwin, collaborated on their new and unique dining concept, building an intimate, handsome space which is both comfortable and relaxed. Cork & Fork features creative small plates ranging from classic comfort food to exotic fusion. Their mix, match, share, and enjoy policy is fun and interesting, and allows diners to choose their own little adventure, or they can let Chef Andi choose a small plate tasting for them.

On a recent visit, my husband, Bill, and I shared smoked pork tacos, the amazing house cured salmon and the artisan three cheese plate. On a repeat visit, Bill enjoyed a tasty Margherita pizza, while I just had to have my fix of mac and cheese. In the desert department we both sampled the house made Gelato and, my recent favorite, a wonderful butterscotch pot du crème.

Ever-Changing Hand Picked Wine List

Cork & Fork offers an ever-changing hand picked wine list which includes sampling flights, which is a great way to discover delicious and affordable wines. They also offer beer and a selection of Sujo cocktails made with distilled rice wine liqueur. Diners may also take home a bottle of any wine at 50% off Cork & Forks listed bottle price.

We enjoyed the food, the staff, and the intimate space, and will be returning often. My only suggestion to chef Andi would be to add a few lighter fare small plates.

We just closed escrow yesterday on our new Plan-3 model home. The buyer has agreed to lease it back to the developer for a few months while the next phase of new Stonefield Estates homes is under construction. Just one additional plan-3 home remains available in phase-2.

Palm Springs Area Buyers Coming Forward In Increasing Numbers

A number of recent buyers shared with me last month that they were in stand-by mode until our fiscal cliff and tax situations were somewhat resolved here in the U.S.. Now these buyers are coming forward in increasing numbers and in all price segments.

Sales activity for both new and resale homes, luxury condos and custom lots are all on the upswing and yes, prices are continuing to rebound as our Palm Springs area inventory remains below normal. January was off the charts busy as buyers continued to take advantage of some great real estate opportunities. February also appears to be very strong.

Property Owners Seeing Increased Values

Desert property owners wishing to sell are now realizing that their property values have increased nicely in the past year in many communities, especially in the mid to upper price ranges.

Long story short, yes last year's prices are long gone but there are still some very good opportunities in both golf and country club and non-golf communities. While nothing is guaranteed, I see a continuation of the improving market here in the desert for the foreseeable future. After all, a growing number of people from the U.S., Canada and internationally do want to find their home in the desert sun.

Forbes Magazine reports that a sellers market is developing as housing inventory hits a 13-Year low. Here in the desert that's already happened in several price segments as the market continues to improve in all price segments.

For us the proof is also in our own transactions and buyer traffic. So far this year we have experienced record buyer traffic on our websites, and with in-person property showings of Palm Springs area homes and luxury condos. Our sales transactions to date are six percent (6%) ahead of 2012, which was also another record year for Sheri Dettman & Associates.
