A Sunny Day At Lake La Quinta (& The Chateau)

Sheri Dettman With Chateau Manager Chris

With La Quinta temps in the mid to high 80’s this past week it was an easy choice for our video crew to choose to update our video tour of the Lake La Quinta community. Towards the end of the shoot, my husband Bill shot some footage at Chateau Lake La Quinta, located at the western end of the lake (formerly the Lake La Quinta Inn).

While at the Chateau (sounds pretty classy), Bill notice they’d remodeled their restaurant and renamed it Melange. They added a large bar in the center of the room and feature a new menu. Naturally, further investigation into the new space and menu was necessary, so Bill suggested that we go back that evening.

After twisting my arm, Bill and I headed for the Chateau (I just love saying that– Hey everyone we’re off to dine at the Chateau!). Upon arrival, Bill took photos of me with manager Chris. By 6 PM the joint was jumping as people enjoyed a mild evening on the lakeside deck surrounded by fire pits and space heaters of course.

Dinner At The Chateau

We started our evening there by sharing a Caprese Salad. We both agreed it was likely the best Caprese salad that we’ve had in the entire desert. For my main course, I thoroughly enjoyed the Tasmanian Ocean Trout. This Petuna ocean trout has been called the “Wagyu of the sea.” My fish was served with mushroom risotto and baby vegetables.

Bill went for the Newport Pork Chop. Now I’m not a big meat eater, but after sampling a bit, I have to admit that I enjoyed several more bites. At 16 ounces this was a big farm raised pork chop, served with sweet corn, red and green peppers, country mashed potatoes and a delish apple brandy demi-glace sauce. One word sums up this entrée–Yum!

About The Lake La Quinta Community

Homes at Lake La Quinta are located both on and off the lake. Lakefront homes have their own boat docks. Here, homeowners and their guests can enjoy a variety of activities including a cruise on their electric boat (or rent the HOA boat). Kayaking, fishing, tennis and hitting the community park or pool are other popular Lake La Quinta activities.

We dined at and reviewed the Chateau restaurant here in our blog in May of 2015. I can honestly say that the new menu and improvements are a big hit. Reservations are suggested. And if you go, please say hello to the manager, Chris.

Another Beautiful Day In The Desert. Let’s Shoot Some Video!

Another Beautiful Day In The Desert. Let’s Shoot Some Video!

It was another beautiful day in the Palm Springs area today. And while the exciting final round of the Career Builder PGA Tour golf tournament was in process at PGA West in La Quinta, my husband Bill Dettman grabbed his video gear and headed south on Madison Street to Trilogy at La Quinta to shoot new video footage for our Trilogy video tour.

You Can View Our New Trilogy Video here.

Real estate sales in Trilogy have been very active this season and as of this writing, we have several Trilogy homes under contract for buyer clients. Several more have sold and closed escrow in the past few months.

Step Into Bill’s Office On The Trilogy Golf Course

Bill spent about four hours on the Trilogy Golf Course getting the new shots. Then he edited the video footage just this afternoon. For any of you interested in video tech, Bill used a Canon EOS C100 Cinema Camera with an assortment of Canon lenses, a Bright Tangerine Matte Box with a number of special camera filters, a SmallHD HD702 monitor, Manfrotto Carbon Fiber tripod with camera slider and a few other toys.

After The Video Shoot It's On To Editing

Bill edits his footage in Final Cut Pro X during which time he also selects music tracks which are licensed for our use. For the final step in producing each of our videos, Bill invites me into his editing bay where I record my narration voiceovers.

If you enjoy our videos, please let me know and I'll pass this onto Bill.

Dining Around The Desert: LG’s Prime Steak House

Dining Around The Desert: LG’s Prime Steak House

After many years of not visiting LG’s Prime Steakhouse in La Quinta, my husband Bill and I went for dinner during the recent PGA Tour Career Builder Challenge at PGA West. And by the looks of it, business is booming at LG’s.

Dinner For Two At LG's Large Bar

We grabbed the last two seats at the large bar. The atmosphere was very pleasant, and the room had a nice, warm feel to it. LG’s features an extensive wine list both by the glass and bottle. Thankfully the bartender offered us several wines to taste before we made our choices.

For dinner I choose two appetizers; I enjoyed the Mac and Cheese as well as the Roasted Brussel Sprouts in a maple glaze. Since LG’s is primarily a steak house, Bill went for a petite filet and baked potato with all the fixings. Bill’s steak was cooked to perfection and was both tender and tasty.

LG's Wine Cellar

We returned to LG’s the following week at the invitation of Keller Williams Realty management for a small dinner party in LG’s private wine cellar downstairs. This visit I went for the Roasted Salmon Filet, and I choose Buerre Blanc sauce over the Bernaise. Bill doubled down on the 8-ounce Filet but passed on the sizzling butter sauce.

We had a plan for desert. Bill ordered the Tiramisu while I went for the Brownie with ice cream. This way we both got to sample two splendid deserts.

LG’s tends to be on the pricey side, which is par for the course for high-end steak houses. Entrees are ala cart and the sides do add up. The bottom line for us is the quality is there, and we’ll be back in the future. Maybe not every week, but we’ll be back.

Dining Around The Desert: WP Kitchen, Palm Desert

Dining Around The Desert: WP Kitchen, Palm Desert

As some of you might recall, years ago I worked for Wolfgang Puck at the original Spago Restaurant in West Hollywood. Thru the years, I’ve continued to enjoy Wolf’s restaurants, and I’m happy to say that his newest concept serving global fare in a family-style format does not disappoint.

Inspired by how Wolf dines and entertains at home, the menu at the new WP Kitchen & Bar in Palm Desert consists of seasonal offerings of small plates, fresh salads, pizzas, handmade pasta as well as steak and seafood.

Klaus Puck & Sheri Dettman

Wolf’s Brother Klaus Puck Onsite

On our visit, my husband Bill and I were lucky enough to see Klaus Puck, Wolfgang’s brother at the helm. He was greeting the customers, expediting the food and making sure that everything was running smoothly. Truly hands on and it shows.

Sharing WP Kitchen’s Small Plates

We started with a delicious Smoked Salmon Bruschetta, which has the best Horseradish Cream that they smoke at Spago, along with Watercress, Apples, Radish and Pumpkin Seeds. Klaus then treated us to a Lobster Knuckle Sandwich that has a taste-tingling mix of Vadouvan spices that are truly addicting. Next was the Arancini with Wild Mushrooms and a Garlic Aioli. Little Italian balls of joy!

For our next course, I had Agnolotti filled with Pumpkin in a Sage Brown Butter sauce dusted with Pecorino and finished with fried Sage. I could eat this dish every day and not get tired of it. Bill enjoyed the Braised Beef Short Rib in Moroccan Spices with Dried Fruit, Toasted Almonds and Couscous. It was falling off the bone, and the spices were spot on.

2 Desserts Are Better Than 1!

By this point, we were stuffed but Klaus’ generosity knew no bounds, and we enjoyed two desserts; the Apple Tart and Salted Caramel Pudding with Crème Fraiche Whipped Cream and Brown Sugar.

We can’t wait to go back and are very happy to have this new addition to the desert dining scene. WP Kitchen has a nice wine list and Happy Hour Menu and is open seven days a week from 11 AM until close with Happy Hour Daily from 3-6PM. Please say hello to Klaus Puck if he's there and tell him that Sheri Dettman sent you.

Could Location #1 Be One Of The Best In PGA West?

81075 National Drive, La Quinta

Check out this map of today’s available homes and their locations in the Greg Norman community of PGA West in La Quinta. On this map, you'll see that home #1 sits on a huge pie shaped lot with amazing south and western views.

This is one of the largest lots in the entire PGA West community at over ½ acre. Heck, there’s even room to add another guest suite, office, studio or separate quarters for the in-laws. We just listed this home this week, and it’s worth seeing. If you or someone you know is interested in a luxury golf course home with five bedrooms (including two Casita suites) and six baths, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Recent Comments From Buyer & Seller Clients

Recent Comments From Buyer & Seller Clients

We always enjoying hearing from our clients about their experiences in both buying or selling their Palm Springs area homes or luxury condos. Here's three recent comments about our Sheri Dettman & Associates team members.

Regarding Team Members

“Sheri, We really enjoyed dealing with Ed. I think that he immediately sensed the sort of home that would appeal to us and showed us exactly what we were looking for. That’s a great skill!

I would definitely recommend your agency! The assistance from Ed in coordinating with the seller and from Beverly (Sheri’s client services manager) to make all the paperwork stuff go right was unbeatable. As you know, we decided part way through the process to go cash instead of financing (I can not believe how annoying the paperwork has become in recent years!) and Ed and Beverly switched gears quickly and moved up our closing to make things easier. The best part of the transaction was dealing with Ed. He is clear in his explanations, and radiates integrity.

Of course you may use us as a reference. I counted how many homes I have bought over the years, and it is approaching 30 in three countries. By far this was the best transaction of them all. And that’s why we will be listing our previous property with you as soon as we empty it of 14 years worth of accumulations!”
David Gleason – La Quinta, California

Regarding Team Member

“Hello Sheri, Emily and your staff were amazing. What I liked best about the service, was how attentive Emily was to my concerns and fears. She explained every step of the process and she always reassured me that she would take care of any and all my concerns.

Emily actually went beyond the standard in getting the deal closed. I can't think of anything you all could have done better, this is my seventh home purchase, and by far Emily made it one of the smoothest buys for me. Please feel free to use me as a reference. It would be my pleasure.”
Troye Holmes – La Quinta, California

Regarding Sheri Dettman

“Hi Sheri, We would certainly recommend you to other purchasers and sellers. You were honest about the market conditions a couple of years ago when we first approached you about selling. At that time you recommended postponing any sale.

When you thought it was an opportune time to sell, you were honest at the list price and the price we would end up selling to a purchaser. You knew the market. You provided helpful advice regarding what we needed to do to sell and were able to recommend qualified trades contractors to deal with the minor issues arising from the inspection that needed to be addressed. You and your team were completely professional.”

Andalusia’s Impressive New Golf Clubhouse

The new Golf Clubhouse at Andalusia La Quinta is just about complete. In fact, the opening is set for November, right around the annual welcome back celebration event for members.

The upper level offers 10,000 square feet of space for members to enjoy including luxurious Men’s and Women’s lounges and locker rooms. Amazing Views Of The Coral & Santa Rosa Mountains

The views from both inside and outside Andalusia’s new Clubhouse are some of the best in the desert. The elevated location looks over the driving range of the Rees Jones private golf course with a backdrop of the nearby Coral and Santa Rosa Mountains.

The new Andalusia Clubhouse is located just across from the existing Racquet Club facility where members and homeowners can take advantage of fitness, tennis and a huge resort style pool. Next to the Racquet Club a new wellness center will soon break ground adding even more amenities for Andalusia residents, golf members, and their guests.

41 New Andalusia Homes Under Construction

After previewing the Andalusia Clubhouse, we drove by several dozen new Andalusia homes under construction. Three of our Sheri Dettman & Associates buyer clients are currently in escrow for their upcoming new homes. A fourth client recently closed on their new home. New La Quinta Amenities Now Being Developed

If you’ve been around La Quinta this summer, you’ve likely noticed a lot of new commercial property development. Several developments are well under construction adjacent to the major Coachella Valley intersection of Washington Street and Highway 111. Our Sheri Dettman & Associates offices are just a block from this intersection in the Washington Plaza retail development.

Yesterday my husband Bill and I were enjoying dinner in Washington Plaza at Bucatini Italian Restaurant. Before dinner, I was interviewed by local KESQ TV reporter, Natalie Brunell about the nearby construction of the Century 12-screen cinema. Here’s a link to the KESQ video and story.

The Best Theaters In The Coachella Valley

The new theaters will likely be the best in the Palm Springs area. Movie Goer's will be able to enjoy a glass of wine, beer or a frozen cocktail in addition to visiting the cafeteria style concession stands. Once inside, the 12 theaters will be all digital 4K. Six screens being able to project 3D and one auditorium will feature CineMark XD Extreme Digital Cinema.

New La Quinta Restaurants

Just across the parking lot from our offices you can discover another new restaurant. My Thai cusine is opening this week. I'll pass on more information and a link to My Tai after our visit in the coming days.

Just a short walk away, two new fast-food restaurants are also under development. La Quinta's first In-N-Out Burger and Chick-fil-A are being built at the site of the former Cadillac dealer that had already moved to a new location just down Highway 111.

Plans for the Washington Plaza La Quinta theater complex include additional restaurants and shops so stay tuned!

Dining Around The Desert: Koutouki Taverna, Palm Desert

Dining Around The Desert: Koutouki Taverna, Palm Desert

We Go Greek In Palm Desert's Newest Restaurant

My husband Bill and I had been looking forward to the newest restaurant on the scene in Palm Desert. Located at the somewhat historic site of the former Sasspers and Sense Restaurants you'll discover the new Koutouki Taverna.

Koutouki Taverna in Palm Desert is the first restaurant in the US from a Canadian family that has owned and run 26 Greek restaurants over a long career in the Edmonton, Alberta area.

Looking Forward To The Grand Opening

Bill and I had been looking forward to the Taverna's opening as we'd seen construction going on for a few months as we drove by on Highway 111. This location was also the original location of Ormi & Boni’s Restaurant before they moved to La Quinta (now rumored to soon to become a Denny's–and more on that later).

Opening just four weeks ago, the whole family is involved from the daughter, Dina, who greets you at the door (pictured with me), to Chris, her husband who is the chef. The night we were there we also met mom and shared an after dinner drink with papa.

The Tasting Menu For Us

Since this was our first visit to Koutouki, our server suggested we try the Koutouki Meze, which is a pretty broad tasting menu. The first course featured five dips, and olives served with warm pita bread– my favorite was the Kopanisti, which is Feta, roasted jalapenos, and mint. Bill enjoyed the Tzatziki made of Greek yogurt, cucumbers, and garlic.

Next up was Keftedes. These are house-made, pan fried beef meatballs followed by grilled chicken. Then, Dolmades, the traditional grape leaves stuffed with ground beef, rice and tzatziki, and then Spanakopita with spinach, feta, mint and dill. Yum!

The Main Course Arrives

As if that wasn’t enough, the main course of Arni Kleftiko soon arrived. This slow roasted lamb was falling off the bone, and the lemon-roasted potatoes were the perfect compliment. We were offered desserts, but we’d already hit our limit.

For now, Koutouki is only serving beer (Bira) and wine. They do have a nice selection of wine. Our server offered us a taste of several we were interested in before making our wine choice.

The last time we peeked in the restaurant was full, so reservations are suggested.

Koutouki Taverna is also open for lunch featuring a mouthwatering selection of Buns, Wraps, and Gyros. Koutouki Taverna: 73675 Highway 111 in Palm Desert. (760) 834-8221.
