Dining Around The Desert: The Red Barn, Palm Desert

Everything Old is New Again

A couple of weeks ago, my team visited the brand new version of the old Red Barn in Palm Desert. You may have driven by this iconic bar and wondered if it will ever re-open….and the answer is yes! If you’d ever been there in the past, you won’t recognize it in its current transformation.

Built in 1953, as a classy steakhouse and art gallery, The Red Barn quickly became the desert’s legendary watering hole…where the crews of Gene Autry and Hopalong Cassidy films, Frank Sinatra and the Pack as well as other Hollywood legends like Lucy and Desi came to kick back and cut loose.

You might remember it was severely damaged by a fire back in 2020. The previous owner sold it a couple of years ago and now it’s being completely re-vamped. The exterior will stay the same but the interior will be a throw-back to the original 1960’s decor when it was first built in 1968. The new owners are originally from San Diego and wanted a place to hang out when they were in town and the opportunity to purchase the red barn came up…and they took it.  After decades of transformations and tales, they’ve brought this historical gem back to its mid-century heyday with a mix of Rat Pack chic and cowgirl charm. Whether you’re there for a night of dancing, craving a one-of-a-kind cocktail, or just looking to soak up the vibe, they’ve got you covered with some of the best DJs and live acts in town.

The new and improved Red Barn won’t be serving any food, but they will have food trucks parked outside and plan to have live entertainment.

We are featuring it on our upcoming Selling Palm Springs episode and last week a group of us went to have cocktails there to celebrate our friend’s birthday after dinner at Castelli’s. The place was jumping and a ton of fun and we will be back soon.
